What is a cutting?

A cutting is a plant fragment taken from an existing plant and then placed in favourable conditions to develop its own roots. Once rooted, the cutting becomes a new plant genetically identical to the plant from which it came.

Vegetative propagation

Cutting is a method of vegetative propagation widely used in horticulture and cannabis cultivation. Unlike a plant grown from a seed, it does not result from sexual reproduction and retains the genetic characteristics of the mother plant.

This technique makes it possible to faithfully reproduce certain traits such as the plant’s structure, vigour, aromatic profile or other desired characteristics.

Rooting and development

Making a cutting generally involves taking a young, healthy branch and encouraging root formation in a suitable substrate or environment. Temperature, humidity and lighting play an important role during this phase.

Once rooted, the cutting continues to develop as an independent plant. This method is frequently used to preserve and reproduce a variety with specific characteristics.
