Greenhouse
A cultivation method carried out in a greenhouse, combining natural sunlight with a partially controlled environment.
Greenhouse, or greenhouse cultivation, refers to a hemp cultivation method that combines the advantages of outdoor cultivation with those of indoor cultivation. The plants grow in a greenhouse, benefiting mainly from natural sunlight while being protected from certain weather conditions.
This technique now plays an important role in hemp production, particularly for CBD flowers. It offers a compromise between the relatively low costs of Outdoor cultivation and the higher level of control provided by Indoor cultivation.
An intermediate method between Indoor and Outdoor
Greenhouse cultivation falls between Indoor and Outdoor cultivation. As with outdoor cultivation, the plants rely mainly on sunlight for their development. However, the greenhouse provides protection against many environmental factors.
Depending on the facilities, the grower may also adjust certain parameters, such as ventilation, humidity, temperature, shading or aeration, to improve cultivation conditions.
The role of natural light
Unlike Indoor cultivation, which relies mainly on artificial lighting, Greenhouse cultivation uses sunlight as the main energy source for photosynthesis.
This natural exposure contributes to the development of the plant, its flowers and trichomes, as well as the production of cannabinoids, terpenes and other compounds naturally present in hemp.
Improved crop protection
The greenhouse protects the plants from heavy rain, wind, hail, significant temperature fluctuations and various external contaminants or pests. It therefore helps maintain an environment that is generally more stable than cultivation carried out entirely outdoors.
However, the level of control depends on the type of greenhouse used. Some facilities are relatively simple, while others have automated systems for managing the climate, irrigation or ventilation.
A method widely used for CBD flowers
Greenhouse cultivation is now very common in the production of CBD flowers. It makes it possible to benefit from the sun's free energy while limiting certain risks associated with weather conditions.
Many growers choose this method to achieve a balance between quality, yield, cultivation control and production costs.
One of the three main cultivation methods
Alongside Indoor and Outdoor cultivation, Greenhouse cultivation is one of the three main production methods used in the hemp industry. This classification is commonly used to describe the origin of flowers, compare cultivation methods and better understand the characteristics of the various products available on the market.
