Aromatic profile

The aromatic profile refers to all the odours and aromas perceptible in a flower, resin, extract or any other hemp-derived product. It describes the olfactory and taste characteristics that distinguish one product from another.

Each aromatic profile results from a complex combination of compounds naturally present in the plant, particularly terpenes and certain other aromatic compounds. This combination can produce very varied notes depending on the genetics, growing conditions, harvest or processing method used.

A great diversity of aromas

Aromatic profiles may feature citrus, fruity, floral, woody, spicy, earthy or resinous notes. The same variety may combine several aromatic families in different proportions.

The role of terpenes

Terpenes are among the main contributors to the aromatic profile of hemp. Compounds such as limonene, myrcene, pinene and caryophyllene help create distinctive aromatic signatures.

The aromatic profile is often used to describe and compare hemp varieties or products. It is one of the main elements used to identify a product’s sensory characteristics.
