Resin

Resin refers to a product obtained from the trichomes of hemp or cannabis. These resinous glands, found mainly on the flowers, naturally contain cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids and many other plant compounds. After being separated from the plant material, the trichomes can be grouped and processed to produce resin, whose texture varies depending on the production method.

In the world of hemp, resin is a broad product family encompassing various production techniques. It is one of the best-known types of concentrate and is now available in many forms, from traditional resins to more recent processes.

Material derived from trichomes

Trichomes are small microscopic glands that mainly cover hemp flowers. They produce and store most of the cannabinoids, terpenes and many other compounds naturally present in the plant.

Producing resin involves collecting these trichomes and bringing them together to obtain a product more concentrated than the original flower.

Different production methods

There are many methods for producing resin. Some use dry sifting (Dry Sift), others rely on ice-water extraction (Bubble Hash) or mechanical processes such as the pressing used to produce Rosin.

Each method results in resin with its own composition, texture and characteristics.

A wide variety of textures

Depending on its production process, resin may be dry, crumbly, pliable, oily, sticky or particularly compact. Its colour generally ranges from light beige to dark brown, sometimes with golden, amber or almost black shades.

These differences depend in particular on the variety used, the quality of the raw material, the richness in trichomes and the various processing stages.

Resin, Hash and other concentrates

The terms resin and hash are often used as synonyms in everyday language. Hash, however, more specifically refers to a category of resins obtained from trichomes that have been separated and then worked or compressed.

The resin family also includes other concentrates such as Bubble Hash or Rosin, which use different production processes while aiming to concentrate the compounds naturally present in the trichomes.

A major category of hemp products

Resins occupy an important place in the hemp industry. They encompass a wide range of products obtained using traditional or modern techniques, but all based on the same principle: concentrating the compounds naturally present in the trichomes to obtain a product different from the flower.
