Screen

A screen is an accessory consisting of a grid or mesh that separates particles according to their size. In the world of cannabis and hemp, it is mainly used to filter plant material, collect trichomes or produce certain forms of pollen and resin.

Screens are available with different mesh sizes. The finer the mesh, the more it retains larger particles and allows only the smallest elements to pass through. The choice of screen depends on the desired result and the type of material being processed.

Use in cannabis and hemp

When sifting flowers or dry plant material, trichomes can be separated from the rest of the plant using suitable mesh sizes. This technique is used in particular to make certain pollens, kiefs or resins obtained through mechanical separation.

Sifting can be carried out manually or using specialised equipment comprising several filtration levels. Some methods also use cold temperatures to facilitate the separation of trichomes.

Screens are available with many mesh diameters, often expressed in microns. Each size produces a different selection of particles and influences the purity and texture of the final product.

Unlike extraction methods using solvents, a screen acts solely through physical separation. It is one of the most widely used tools for sorting plant material and collecting certain fractions naturally present on the plant.
