Hash

Hash, also known as hashish, is a hemp concentrate obtained from the trichomes found on the flowers. These resin glands, naturally rich in cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids and other plant compounds, are separated from the plant material and then gathered to form a more or less compact resin. Hash is one of the best-known traditional concentrates in the world of hemp and cannabis.

Present for several centuries in various regions of the world, hash is made using numerous techniques that have evolved over time. Despite this diversity, the principle remains the same: concentrate the trichomes to obtain a product that differs from the flower while retaining a large part of its natural constituents.

A resin derived from trichomes

Trichomes are tiny resin glands located mainly on the surface of hemp flowers. They produce and store most of the plant's cannabinoids, terpenes and many other natural compounds.

Making hash involves collecting these trichomes and then combining them to obtain a resin whose texture, colour and density vary according to the production method used.

Different production methods

There are many techniques for making hash. Traditional methods often rely on Dry Sift, meaning the dry sieving of flowers. Others use ice water and filter bags, as with Bubble Hash. Some resins are also obtained from Kief or other mechanical concentrates.

Hash quality depends in particular on the genetics used, the richness of the flowers in trichomes, the fineness of the separation, the degree of purification and the producer's expertise.

A wide variety of textures

Depending on its origin and production process, hash can have very different textures. It may be powdery, crumbly, soft, oily, sticky or particularly compact. Its colour generally ranges from light beige to dark brown, sometimes with golden or amber shades.

These differences are linked to the hemp variety used, the maturity of the trichomes, the production method and the storage and preservation conditions.

A naturally rich composition

Hash consists mainly of trichomes. Depending on the raw material used, it naturally contains various cannabinoids, including CBD, CBG, CBC or CBN, as well as terpenes, flavonoids and other plant compounds.

The proportions of these constituents vary according to the cultivated variety, cultivation methods, production process and various processing stages.
