Distillate

A distillate is a highly purified hemp extract obtained through several stages of extraction, filtration and distillation. These processes concentrate certain cannabinoids while removing some of the other constituents naturally present in the plant. The result is a homogeneous raw material rich in one or more cannabinoids, depending on the manufacturing objectives.

Distillates now occupy an important place in the hemp industry. They are used as a base for manufacturing many products thanks to their purity, stability and the possibility of obtaining a precisely controlled composition.

How is a distillate obtained?

Distillate production begins with obtaining a crude hemp extract. This is then subjected to various purification stages intended to remove some of the waxes, lipids, pigments and other unwanted plant compounds.

Distillation, often carried out under vacuum to limit working temperatures, then separates the various constituents according to their physical properties. Several cycles may be necessary to achieve the desired level of purity.

A highly concentrated composition

Distillates generally have a high concentration of cannabinoids. Depending on the process used, they may contain mainly CBD, CBG, CBN or other cannabinoids naturally present in hemp.

Distillate, extract and isolate

Distillate is a particular category of extract. Unlike a crude extract, it has undergone additional purification stages to obtain a more homogeneous composition and a higher concentration of certain compounds.

It is also distinct from isolate, which refers to a molecule that has been almost completely purified, whereas a distillate may contain several cannabinoids depending on its formulation.
